Tips on How to Enhance Organizational Mentorship Program
In their analysis of 16 research studies on mentorship programs, Bjursell and Sädbom (2018) discussed the importance of the mentor as a role model. Mentors can play a significant role in the career progress of mentees. The authors emphasize that creating learning opportunities for mentees and mentors can help bridge educational and vocational training. (Bjursell & Sädbom, 2018). The following summarizes. Bjursell and Sädbom’s (2018) recommendations on how to enhance an organization’s mentorship program:
  • Select a mentorship program coordinator responsible for developing a selection process that generates interest, screens and trains mentors, selects and matches mentors with mentees, monitors relationship development, and evaluates and publishes findings.
  • Take a holistic approach to building trust and supporting the individual and social goals of the mentee.

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
